What I Wore: Function but still Fashionable

Jeans, thrifted; shirt, Streetwear Society; shoes, Merrell, shirt (tied around waist), competition, Sunglasses, Mountain Equipment Coop. This is during an Environmental Sciences competition that I completed over the weekend, in a team with some friends. As you can see, we are out in the woods but the light in this one was so neat that I had to post it.

What I Wore Was Probably A Bit Too Skanky

Shirt, ???; Skirt, Hand-me-down; Jewelry, various gifts. This is what I wore to a dance almost two weeks ago. I was wearing three inch stilletos, and as you can sort of see, the skirt is pretty short. My parents didn't tell me to change though, so it's ok. Lots of funny looks from people I hadn't seen in a while and remembered nerdy, sweat shirt wearing Rosie. Danced with a guy I like, had fun with friends, all in all an awesome night.

PS: I am really busy, and going away soon, so posting may be a bit sketchy for a while. Sorry, but life is getting in the way, but in a good way. In that I that I have a lot of fun stuff to do, and by consequence have to work hard to keep up with all the school I am missing.

Product Review: Covergirl Outlast Eyeliner

I'm pretty sure this is the best eyeliner in existence that won't leave you explaining to the bank that you really NEED the second mortgage, because have you seen the prices of eyeliner lately!

Anyway, I first bought this because I was eager to try the twisty kind of eyeliner that doesn't involve sharpening, and because the one I was wearing at the time wasn't working out. My skin isn't very greasy, but my eyelids are super greasy. My beautiful, creamy black eyeliner usually migrates entirely to my crease by about ten minutes after I leave the house. I wear quite a bit of black eyeliner, so I'm guessing you can imagine my problems. This, however, is different. This stuff put up with a lot of crap from me, example, a long day at school, then shopping for an hour, before an intense evening of dancing. Without smudging AT ALL!

The second awesome factor is the price. I can't find exactly how much it costs on the site, but I think that I paid around six dollars for it at my local super market. Some people might say that this price is a sign of poor quality, but unless it's radioactive, of something, I'm pretty sure this stuff is amazing.

The one possible downside to this product is that it doesn't wear well with eyeshadow. Try as I might, I have yet to make it appear black on top of any kind of shadow, be it matte or shimmery.

Over all, I think that I would give this product a 5/5.

(I am not being paid to sell this product, I just really like it.)

Inspiration from my Roots (sort of)

A few nights ago, I watched the movie New Waterford Girl with my parents, for the second time. The first time I watched it was a couple years ago, and I immediately went out and found some pictures. I don't know where I found them, but if someone knows, please let me know.

The movie is about a creative, lonely girl in New Waterford, Cape Breton, in the seventies. I could go on about how awesome this movie is, but this is a fashion blog, so I'm going to talk costumes. Sadly, there aren't that many stills where you can really appreciate the costumes, so this is more like a preview than an accurate description

These two pictures help capture the feel. There are a lot of lumber jack shirts, huge knit sweaters, and corduroy. The protagonist, Moonie (the dark haired girl in the photos above) wears a long, somewhat flowing, heavy skirt in several scenes. There is a character who dresses entirely in shade of beige, mostly corduroy.

I have no intention of starting wear corduroy, in any great quantities at least, but I love the sweater that Moonie wears, and can be seen in the first picture. I really liked the overall aesthetic of the film.

(This is a note about the title of my post. My father spent part of his teenage years in an area very close to New Waterford, and his family was only one step up the socioeconomic ladder from this, so this is pretty close to parts of his life as a teen.)
