Blog Email

I recently realized that if any of you wanted to get in touch with me privately, you had no way of doing so. Since I feel somewhat uneasy posting my personal email address for all to see, and even more uneasy about posting my school address, I have created an email address for my blogger account. You can email me at rosie.unknown@gmail.com . You can also click the link in my profile.

Thanks!

What I Wore: Sugar Camp

We went to the sugar woods today. Incase you don't know, a sugar wood is maple forest where they harvest sap from the maple trees, boil it down, and make syrup. Yummy! I only managed to get this one picture, since we had to leave the house to get there before the afternoon crowd. Anyways, pale blue rain coat, Mountain Equipment Coop; jeans, Old Navy; boots, not sure. I do have hands, they are just in the slleves of my jacket, and my other foot has sunk into the snow in my yard. My face looks stupid because it was really bright out. I actually had to edit the photo so that you could see anything, it was so bright!

What I Wore

Jeans, thrifted; pink cowl neck (under the poncho), Old Navy; poncho, hand knit, a present when I was like ten. The poncho is a more blueish colour in reality, but I couldn't get the colour to come up properly when I took the photos. I had to get dressed today, because I went to the eye doctor this morning. I was going to go to school afterwards but my mom thought that I should stay home and rest up. And I let myself be talked into it. Bad Rosie.

On another note, new photo location! Having the house all to myself today, I decided to experiment. What do you think?

What I Wore: Clown Pants and Polka Dots

I had this awesome outfit planned out for Monday, but due to an ill timed headache and then a snow storm, I wore it on Wednesday instead.  Shirt, West Coast Connection; pants, thrifted; scarf, thrifted; bag, gift, not sure what brand since it doesn't have a visible tag in it. The bag is this weird jelly like material, and is several years old. I wore my tall black leather boots, that have an inch and a half heel. Even with the heel, the extremely wide hem touched the ground. Just to give you an idea of how wide they are, the hem is almost as wide as the waist. They are a bit like clown pants, but I got a ton of compliments!

Black blazer, as old time readers will know, is from Dale's Department Store; jeans, thrifted; tank top, Lu
lulemon. Not much to say about this outfit, only that it was constructed from the need to wear short sleeves, and not wanting to be cold all day. We had some shots done today, which is why I needed short sleeves. It would have gone well, but I reacted badly to one of them and had to come home early. Thankfully, no hives, or lack of breathing, just dizzyness.

I really like my earrings today, so here is a close up. They were a gift from my grandmother, and I'm pretty sure that she had had them since the 80s. The necklace was a gift form my aunt at Christmas, and I haven't worn it yet. The earrings really don't match the outfit, but I really wanted to wear them so I decided to let them bring some colour and spontaneity to my outfit.

Reasons to be Happy: March 24, 2009

1. Two words: SNOW DAY!  This is somewhat bittersweet, since we just got another foot of snow, so it will take longer to melt, but still a day off school is always happy.

2. Due to an insane headache, I missed yesterday, so I have had a four day weekend.

3. My headache happened to coincide with the day that I didn't have english class, so I won't have huge amounts of work to do when I get back. English is my best subject, and I am taking advanced English this year. I blogged about that on my LiveJournal blog here. The second Reason to be Happy explains this. For reference, I'm in grade nine.

4. I took some pictures the other day and a few of them came out well.

5. I have an awesome outfit that I was going to wear today, but instead I will         wear tomorrow.

Wish List: ModCloth Summer clothes

With Summer, hopefully, fast approaching, it's high time for me to be starting to look into Summer clothing. I say hopefully fast approaching, because there is still a foot or two of snow on the ground and the temperature is hovering around zero degrees Celsius. Gross.

Isn't this dress simply amazing! I have really been craving bright blues lately, and this certainly is bright! I also love the cut of the neckline! 54.99$ at Modcloth.

Isn't this amazing! I love it! If you click through the link, you can see a close up of the fabric, and the pattern is actually little strawberries! 34.99$

I'm pretty sure that if this skirt weren't 64.99$, I would buy it. I love it at least  30$, maybe even 45$, but not 65$. Sad, but I may take it to my sometimes sewing teacher and see if she could help me make something like it!

I would seriously adore these shorts, but I can't because I know that they would look absolutely horrid on me. I have a somewhat pudgy stomach, and somewhat wobbly thighs, so this not going to work. Still, I could wear something like this, I would almost consider dropping the 89.99$ for these.

Last, but certainly not least, these AWESOME shoes! At 32.99$, they are reasonably priced. I might actually buy them, since at the moment I don't own any sandal, unless you count a pair of croc flip-flops I wear when out in the back yard or on the beach.

What do you think? Do you have any one item that you really want for this summer?

Salad: An Experiment in Photography

I have been interested in photography for a good long while. As I sat down to eat my salad for lunch today, I realized the light coming in the window was positively perfect! Out came my beloved Canon PowerShot A590, which I got as a gift from my parents. I took some pictures, uploaded them onto iPhoto, and decided to try some photo editing. I picked my favorite, and here is the result:

You wouldn't know to look at it, but the original ( the one on the top) was actually a very brightly coloured picture to begin with.

New Diet

I was positively shocked when I decided to step onto the scale the other day. 140 pounds! This isn't all that heavy, but when you have insanely light bones, even if you are 5'9", this is a bit heavy. Obesity runs in my family, with my mother having struggled with her weight since she was young, and almost all my aunts and uncles are over weight. personally, I don't want to follow in their footsteps, so I have set out on a new quest! I want to firstly improve my health in general, which is pretty bad, and secondly possibly drop a few pounds and shrink an inch or two.

I have a two phase plan:
Phase 1: Eat more fruit and vegetables, and less junk food. Watch what I eat in general.

Phase 2: Exercise! *cue fake enthusiasm* I hate working out, or anything that involves moving around to much, so it's pretty much a miracle I'm not already a whale. Gym class is partially solving that problem for now, but I still think that I should be moving more, so I am trying to work out how to get out more.

It's a pretty simple plan, but I'm hoping that it will work. The difference from this diet and all the other times I've tried this, is that this time my mother knows, and at least partially supports me, and I am going to record my progress here. What do you think? Do you have a favorite diet or exercise plan?

What I Wore: Carnival Week!

I am still alive! I know it's only been around three days since I last posted, but it feels like forever.

On Monday, I wore this:

Black pleather leggings, thrifted; black knit shirt, Dale's Department Store; flowered shirt, vintage fabric that was a gift form a friend worn as a sarong; barely visible hair bow, scrapof vintage fabric. I wore this with my black converse all-stars.

Tuesday:

American Apparel tights, they are actually more red, a sort of bright orangy-scarlet; skirt, thrifted; shirt, SmartSet; the bag is an old brief case of my dad's that I have been using for this week. I wore my black t-strap heels, and my white fuzzy jacket.

Wednesday:

Jeans, Old Navy; shirt, Urban Planet. I'm wearing a bunch of "gold" jewelry, and a side pony tail.

Thursday and Friday, I didn't wear anything worth posting a picture of. Thursday I wore bright blue jeans, a brown turtle neck shirt and my turquoise shrug. Today I wore, red jeans, my hot pink Old Navy cowl neck, and a mauve sleeveless top over it.

(Sorry about the crappy pictures, by the time I got home and had time to take pictures, I was tired and it was dark out, so I have crappy flash and over head lighting. I keep forgetting to take pictures before I leave.)

Reasons to be Happy: March 17, 2009

Seeing as it's Tuesday, and for some reason I decided I was going to post my reasons to be happy on Tuesdays, I am posting them.

1. I got two new pairs of tights from American Apparel over my March break, and I wore a pair for the first time. I love them! They actually fit! (Usually, tights are either too short or too big around.)

2. It's carnival week at school, meaning that we are having lots of fun activities and stuff.

3. I get home before the shops close tomorrow, so I am going downtown to spend my lunch money on fashion mags. Explanation: My parents are scientists. They don't see fashion as very important, and don't like the idea of me devoting too much of my life too it. Therefor, they won't buy my fashion mags, where they would buy me, say science mags. I don't want to spend my hard earned cash on them, so I pack my own lunch, and ask for lunch money occasionally.

4. I wore my totally awesome black t-strap heels today, and they are comfortable, but it was amazing to step out of them and into socks.

5. My boots (mid calf, black leather, low square heel, square toe), which I may or may not have talked about before, are coming back from the shoe doctors today. There was something wrong with the heel according to my dad, so they had to go get fixed.

What I Wore

As my second last post explained, I had an Oral Presentation on Friday. I wanted to look professional, but not boring and this is what i wore:

Black blazer, on sale at Dale's Department Store; Sort of visible black tank top, Smart Set a while back; Black pants, Lululemon

Here is a close up of the Jewelery:

The necklace is a sun cross that my Grandmother brought back from Ireland when I was younger (I'm not religious at all, I just like the necklace.). The Flower is from the Halifax Farmer's Market and is made form my dad's family tartan, Black Watch. The other brooch is my parent's brought back from Scotland, and it is made from a Heather Gem set in  silver.

My second outfit is what I wore to a workshop for a club I'm in on Saturday.

This is what I would have worn if it weren't cold. The red t-shirt is the Smart Set one I bought in Halifax, Old Nazy jeans.

This is what I ended up wearing all day, since it was somewhat chilly. The sweater is Lululemon.

Thanks!

So sorry about the absence, I was pretty busy and didn't have time to post. I have a What I Wore post some time this evening, when I find my camera (not sure what bag it's in) and upload the pictures of what I wore yesterday. I should also have some neat outfit posts this week, since it's warming up in the maritimes, and I can wear more interesting outfits.

The main purpose of this post is to thank everybody who has posted a comment here that I didn't respond to. Sorry about that! I guess there is something funny in my settings, I thought it was supposed to notify me when I get a comment, but it hasn't. I'll fix that soon.

Thanks!

Grrr...

I hate oral presentations. Especially when you are the youngest member of the class, with one other person close to your age and everyone else 1 to almost 2 years older than you. and you don't really know anyone.

The only positive thing is that I am one of the two people in the class that doesn't have an accent when speaking english. (Incase you don't know, I'm an anglophone who attends a francophone high school.)

This post is completely without meaning. I just needed to express my dislike for oral presentations, and my family just tells me to suck it up.

Reasons to be Happy: March 10, 2009

Guess what day it is? That's right, Tuesday! And what do Tuesdays mean? Reasons to be Happy!

1. My mom baked a chocolate cake today! Yummy!

2. I've been steadily getting better in gym class, and I ran more laps than ever before today!

3. I played pretty well when we played Basketball today.

4. I got new cd from a friend, Civilized Man by James Marsters, and I absolutely adore it. If you watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you may remember James Marsters as the vampire Spike.

5. Ummm... I may not have to present my English presentation till Friday, if I'm really lucky next Tuesday?

I'm back!

My trip to Halifax was really fun, and now I'm back. I got several new things, so here they are!

This is a very strange but pretty awesome jacket, which I found in a second hand shop, for 32$. You can't really tell from the picture, but it's a very plush faux fur.

Pretty straight forward, a red U neck shirt from Smart Set. The awesome factor was the price. Did I pay the full 14$? Nu-un! It was twenty percent off, and with tax I ended up paying something around twelve dollars. Is it an amazing deal? Not really, but still pretty awesome.

These look really fugly don't they? In reality, these are totally awesome, faux pleather leggings. Yes, faux pleather. They may look short, however, they are fully ankle length. I paid a total of seven dollars before seeing several VERY similar pairs for significantly more money. Ok, so the upper inner thigh of the left leg did rip when I got home and put them on to show a friend, but it was along the seam so I'll sew them up, and they will be worn in the near future.

What more can I say? Awesome beaded shrug-thing, on an amazing sale. It was the winter clearance sale, and apparently this is winter? Does that make sense to you? Anyway, I fell completely in love, and a handy sale saved me form anguish, since there is no way I would pay 110$ for it, no matter how much I loves it.

The last items I got were two pairs of American Apparel tights, and I will talk more about those when I wear them.

Possibly Good Bye for a few days

I'm leaving for Halifax in a few hours, and I don't know if I will be posting while I'm away. My computer is a desktop, so I obviously can't take it with me. I might update once or twice from my aunt's laptop, but I doubt that I will have time. When I get home I should have a nice fat post filled with new things that I have bought, but until then,

BYE!

Reasons to be Happy: March 4, 2009

As readers of my Live Journal blog will remember, every Tuesday I do a post where I list five things that are making me happy. They will also remember that I am frequently a day or two late with publishing it. So, here we are on Wednesday, and I am writing it, but at least it's only a day late!

1. It's march break!! One glorious week with absolutely no school, no getting up ridiculously early, sitting through tedious classes, ect. (This also explains why I'm late posting this, I forgot it was Tuesday yesterday.)

2.

I'm going on a trip!! Yay! I'm leaving tomorrow to spend a few days with my Aunt, Uncle and two year old cousin in Halifax NS.

3. Visiting my Aunt means that we go SHOPPING! This is fun since none of my family other than her enjoys shopping with me, since nobody else likes the same kind of stuff, and gets that shopping isn't just something we do when we need new running shoes.

4. I am going down on the train, and for some this means four or more hours of boredom, I'm looking forward to it as time to catch up on podcasts, read, sketch and do other things like that.

5. I got a new book today, and it's all about sewing purses, so I am really looking forward to making some new bags.

ShopBop Sale

In case you hadn't heard there are some sales on at ShopBop. This is the first time I have forayed into the website, and I thought I would check it out. I decided, since it's a big site, that I would only look at the shoes in my size that are on sale. I have picked out some of my favorites. I won't actually be buying any of them, but they are fun to look at.

This Diane von Furstenberg bootie is 238.50$, and was originally 795.00$. So, it's pretty good bargain. i would love to buy it, and wear it with everything from a miniskirt with tights, to jeans and yoga pants.

The second shoe I came across that I actually considered buying was this Leopoldo Giordano. It's only 163.50$ down from 545.00$. From my point of View, this is a very all purpose shoe for the warmer times of the year, and I would get it in taupe, but it's also available in Navy.

I positively adore this Report Signature Shoes sandal. It has an ankle strap, which is always nice with a fairly open shoe. it's 136.50$, down from 195.00$, so not a great steal, but it's still a nice shoe for a somewhat reasonable price, depending on how much you generally spend on shoes. Imagine this with scrunched up black skinnies, or a cute dress!

The final shoe that caught my eye is this Dolce Vita. Again, an ankle strap. which is always good, and I really like the grey and white. I tend to lean towards black, so would be a neat way to lighten up a dark outfit. 115.50$ down from 165.00$, so again not an amazing sale, but still pretty good.

What I Wore: Birthday Party!!!

Yesterday, one of my best friends turned seventeen, so of course, she had a birthday party. I really like my outfit, and I only have on picture of me in it, so you will have to forgive the weird picture.

The shirt is from Smartset, bought in September, the skirt is from a second hand shop, bought years ago. You can't see them, but I was wearing black sparkly tights that were a Christmas gift. I was wearing shiny black t-strap heels.

(This outfit make much more sense if you know what was going on at the moment. I was standing up, and a friend was sitting next to me, and I was saying something, when another friend took my camera and snapped this picture.)
